Abraham Alguacil was slow to take the kick. During this time Panama's players had a chance to rest. Rickey McLain recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 12th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Tomas Berganza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 16th minute the ball was on its way in behind Sunnyvale FC's goalkeeper Melchor Elija, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Benito Newcomb hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. 21 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Francesco Di Lillo came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Melchor Elija made an important save on a dangerous shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 25th minute. If Tomas Berganza had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 29th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rickey McLain blasted a shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Marcos Cotilla having to make a save. In the 43rd minute, Francesco Di Lillo got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Marcos Cotilla came out of the goal in the 44th minute to try and stop a shot by Sunnyvale FC's Rickey McLain. But to his dismay, Rickey McLain quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Berganza was the one to do the kick off. Sunnyvale FC's Melchor Elija played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Abraham Alguacil in the 51st minute of play. Tomas Berganza scored 1-1 in the 52nd match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Melchor Elija, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Jose Carita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Melchor Elija having to interfere. 60 minutes into the match, Panama's goal looked a bit too open when Francesco Di Lillo came free, but Marcos Cotilla reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Melchor Elija showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Miguel Miralles, who was totally free with the ball in the 62nd minute. A sloppy throw-in by Matthew Garrido in the 74th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Sunnyvale FC's Benito Newcomb.
