Décio Garcia tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Mark Elzer blasted a shot towards the goal in the 15th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Julio Vera having to make a save. The attack was good, but when Fortunato Schumacher in the 16th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Fortunato Schumacher in the 18th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Marten Möller hit a great freekick 19 minutes into the match. When the match clock showed 22 minutes, the score became 1-0 when Fortunato Schumacher sped through Ecuador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Julio Vera. Agustín Saelices scored 1-1 in the 25th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Décio Garcia, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. In the 28th minute Luis Andino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Décio Garcia saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Ecuador's Cristian Sancho in the 29th minute got a chance for a shot 29th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. Décio Garcia was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it.
