Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 94th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Peter Schmeichel having to interfere. Felix Montenegro hit a great freekick 95 minutes into the match. In the 96th minute of the match Ahmet Göktuğ Masum sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Julio Vera skillfully saved the ball. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
