Benet Ranos short, quick shot in the 25thth minute got Pedro Manzanares to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Axel Montenegro scored 2-3 in the 26th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Geronimo Rulli, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Marian Swoboda hit a great freekick 29 minutes into the match. After some careless play in the Colombia defense, Laércio de Andrade kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Pedro Manzanares. The Colombia fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Pedro Manzanares should have stopped the shot. Internacional's Edward Groth got a good chance for a goal in the 75th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Internacional's Evaristo Costa was substituted for Laércio de Andrade. Pedro Manzanares took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Benet Rano, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Internacional's Evaristo Costa got a good chance for a goal in the 81st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar.
