The corner led Ecuador's Daniel Zorita to fire away a dangerous shot which Geofredo Fox despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Thanks to some nice moves Dumitru Enoaia could shoot a difficult shot in the 14th minute, which Julio Vera however easily saved by the left post. Cristian Sancho blasted a shot towards the goal in the 17th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Geofredo Fox having to make a save. After a defensive mix-up in North Port UTD's zone, Cristian Sancho stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Geofredo Fox came out of the goal and Cristian Sancho tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 21st minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Geofredo Fox saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 22 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Hakkı Deniz Danış came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After some careless play in the North Port UTD defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Geofredo Fox. The North Port UTD fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Geofredo Fox should have stopped the shot. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Geofredo Fox having to interfere. Lucas Alwege received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 31st minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Geofredo Fox read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play.
