Uruguay's Joaquin Gayoso played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Iker Dolfos in the 22nd minute of play. When C. A. Atlanta's Iker Dolfos in the 23rd minute got a chance for a shot 23rd didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A hard shot by Lucho Andrade from long distance, 48 minutes into the match, got Tony Guimarães's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Francisco Seco to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute, Aquiles Manex hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Tony Guimarães took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Francisco Seco, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 59 minutes, Jaime Cazalla mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Uruguay and the C. A. Atlanta players grew even worse after the yellow card. A collision led to Uruguay getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Jaime Cazalla hit a great ball. During the 61st minute of the match Jaime Cazalla completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Jaime Cazalla a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. In the 62nd match minute, Uruguay was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Jaime Cazalla to maneuver through the defense. After a rather tough play, Uruguay's Alberto Gisbert got a free kick in the 70th minute. Teodoro Primo in the 72ndth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal.
