With his leg David Schembri managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Colombia's Axel Montenegro fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Antonio Guillelme in the 44th minute of play forced Colombia's goalkeeper Pedro Manzanares to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 45th minute Abram Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but David Schembri saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ignacio Mastache in the 88th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck David Schembri prevented the ball from getting in the gole. David Schembri showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ignacio Mastache, who was totally free with the ball in the 90th minute. Abram Secada kicked well hit freekick during the 93rd minute of the match. Colombia were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest.
