In the 10th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Martino Pozuelos saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 13th minute after S.C. Internacional RS's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. The corner ended in Daniel Zorita almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but S.C. Internacional RS's Martino Pozuelos did a great save. S.C. Internacional RS's Martino Pozuelos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 17th minute of play. After 20 played minutes S.C. Internacional RS got a freekick which was hit by Remo Motta. After some fancy dribbling in the 22nd minute, Luis Andino managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Luis Andino was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Martino Pozuelos breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 24th minute the ball was on its way in behind S.C. Internacional RS's goalkeeper Martino Pozuelos, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 32nd minute, Daniel Zorita ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Martino Pozuelos was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. S.C. Internacional RS's Martino Pozuelos played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Felix Montenegro in the 35th minute of play. Camilo Gisbert charged in rather forcefully in the 41st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Camilo Gisbert the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Camilo Gisbert hit a great ball. Dinei Gøl sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Martino Pozuelos made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cristian Sancho in the 45th minute of play. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The wind increased when Dinei Gøl made the kick off in the second half. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 54th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 59 minutes, Dinei Gøl mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the S.C. Internacional RS and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 64th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Martino Pozuelos having to interfere. In the 65th minute, Zézinho Sanches hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Daniel Zorita managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Daniel Zorita was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dinei Gøl in the 78th minute of the match. Remo Motta charged in rather forcefully in the 84th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Remo Motta the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. Remo Motta kicked well hit freekick during the 84th minute of the match. The supporters of Ecuador booed when S.C. Internacional RS was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Dario Palombi didn't get a good kick on the ball. Felix Montenegro recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ecuador's fans were overjoyed with their teams well-earned victory and stayed in the stadium long after the final whistle to celebrate the win.
