When Primitivo Andino fell near the penalty area in the 40th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Ecuador's protests and gave Primitivo Andino a yellow card for diving instead. In the 40th minute, Primitivo Andino hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the match had gone on for 45 minutes, Felix Montenegro put it in 0-1 from a short distance just to the right of Cyryl Soszka. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
