Lütfi Kutlubay came out of the goal and Agustín Saelices tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 20th match minute, Cospe-Fogo-Pelasventa was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Thibault Delanoë to maneuver through the defense. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Sal Darby in the 22nd minute of play. Daniel Zorita came free with the goalkeeper in the 23rd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Lütfi Kutlubay could save by the left post. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from João Carlos Mesquita in the 28th minute of the match. Thibault Delanoë kicked well hit freekick during the 29th minute of the match. 31 minutes had been played when some careless play by Cospe-Fogo-Pelasventa's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Daniel Zorita was slow to take the kick. During this time Ecuador's players had a chance to rest. After 36 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Cospe-Fogo-Pelasventa! Lütfi Kutlubay had in the 38thth minute some difficulties stopping Daniel Zorita's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Lütfi Kutlubay in the 44th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Cospe-Fogo-Pelasventa was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Percival de Souza didn't get a good kick on the ball. The score stood at 0-0 when the half time whistle went. Both sets of players seemed reasonably pleased with how the match was going.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. Lütfi Kutlubay took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 62nd minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. Daniel Zorita made a great header on Ecuador's corner, it was just that Cospe-Fogo-Pelasventa's Lütfi Kutlubay managed to reach the ball for a save. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 65 minutes play. Luis Andino hit a great ball. Cospe-Fogo-Pelasventa made a substitution. Richard da Fonseca replaced Israel Otsando. Sal Darby could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 68th minute of the match, but Julio Vera made a huge save. Ian de Azevedo kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. Lütfi Kutlubay made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Felix Montenegro in the 82nd minute of play. João Carlos Mesquita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 89th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lütfi Kutlubay saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Despite being the better team, Ecuador failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
