Anibal Benino might have been able to make a better finish in the 14th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Benito Sanz. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. The referee ignored C A U's protests and gave Nicolas Paz a yellow card for diving instead.

The supporters of C A U booed when Costa Rica was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 84 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alan Moruga didn't get a good kick on the ball. 91 minutes into the match, C A U's goal looked a bit too open when Eliseo Noboa came free, but Benito Lauro reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.
