Tomas Illescas received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 41st minute. René Higuita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Tomas Illescas in the 45th minute of play forced Seleção de Macau's goalkeeper René Higuita to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 46 minutes into the match, Venezuela's Tomas Illescas sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that René Higuita narrowly saved just below the crossbar.

In the 94th minute, David Modesto left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Seleção de Macau fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 2-2. Venezuela succeeded in salvaging a draw, even though Seleção de Macau had controlled the match.
