The supporters of El Salvador booed when IFK Göteborg was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 6 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mattias Kilman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Joachim Hägg received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 11th minute. Ricardo Zorita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ricardo Zorita made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joachim Hägg in the 14th minute of play. IFK Göteborg's Florin Dorlea proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to save IFK Göteborg from getting a goal against them. 24 minutes into the match, IFK Göteborg's goalkeeper Florin Dorlea had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Moises Fernandino. Kent Löfkvist charged in rather forcefully in the 25th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Kent Löfkvist the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 26 played minutes IFK Göteborg got a freekick which was hit by Kent Löfkvist. 29 minutes into the match, El Salvador's Moises Fernandino sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Florin Dorlea narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Florin Dorlea made a fantastic save in the 31st minute, when Moises Fernandino sent off a good shot on target. Ricardo Zorita showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joachim Hägg, who was totally free with the ball in the 42nd minute. In the 43rd minute Moises Fernandino shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Florin Dorlea saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 45 minutes into the game, Joachim Hägg was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. IFK Göteborg's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave El Salvador the free kick. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joachim Hägg was the one to do the kick off. Ricardo Zorita made an important save on a dangerous shot by Vitaliy Krylatov in the 62nd minute. After 77 minutes, Joshua Curbelo mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the El Salvador and the IFK Göteborg players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 78th minute there was a penalty for IFK Göteborg. Manfred Valström stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Ricardo Zorita. 1-1. An unexpected shot in the 82nd minute by Torsten Petersson got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Moises Fernandino took the ball and in the 86 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Florin Dorlea. Florin Dorlea dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-1. After 90 minutes of play, El Salvador's Moises Fernandino made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Florin Dorlea was left in no man's land by his defense there! El Salvador's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
