To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Nicolas Neto made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 22nd minute of play. SC Luzim's Nicolas Neto played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Cristian Sancho in the 29th minute of play. Agustín Saelices might have been able to make a better finish in the 33rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Nicolas Neto. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Agustín Saelices ran back to his position shaking his head. Cristian Sancho fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 43rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nicolas Neto having to interfere. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Salvador Poças in the 47th minute of play. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.
