In the 86th minute Stepan Tovkatskiy shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With an all-out effort, Mexico's Dmytro Novak threw himself towards the right post 88 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Joel Gaona, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. Joel Gaona recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 92nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Mexico's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
