Luis Andino fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 13th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rodney Marines having to interfere. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Celtistas was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 23 match minutes in a wonderful position. Kiko Ferrer didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a rather tough play, Celtistas's Nabucodonosor Campomanes got a free kick in the 41st minute. The supporters of Celtistas booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Nabucodonosor Campomanes made a kick off. Rodney Marines made a fantastic save in the 50th minute, when Felix Montenegro sent off a good shot on target. Lamberto Abajas hit a great freekick 54 minutes into the match. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 57th minute of the match, but Rodney Marines made a huge save. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Nabucodonosor Campomanes in the 59th minute of play. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 61st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Nabucodonosor Campomanes in the 62nd minute of play. With a little luck, Celtistas's Rodney Marines got control of the ball when Daniel Zorita tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 65th minute of the match, but Rodney Marines made a huge save. If Daniel Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Daniel Zorita blasted a shot towards the goal in the 71st minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Rodney Marines having to make a save. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Lorencio Abasalo in the 73rd minute of play. With a little luck, Celtistas's Rodney Marines got control of the ball when Felix Montenegro tried to sneak it across the goal line. Daniel Zorita had several of the Celtistas's defenders around him in the penalty area when he, after 77 minutes of play, received a pass and succeeded in some way to shoot a shot which went straight ahead into goal. This resulted in a 0-2 score and a disappointed Rodney Marines as he didn't even see the shot coming. If Nabucodonosor Campomanes had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Luis Andino could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 83rd minute of the match, but Rodney Marines made a huge save. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Henric Ortega, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. If Lorencio Abasalo had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Kiko Ferrer fell near the penalty area in the 90th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Celtistas's protests and gave Kiko Ferrer a yellow card for diving instead. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Ecuador eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
