The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. After some careless play in the Panama defense, Paco Everett kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marcos Cotilla. The Panama fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marcos Cotilla should have stopped the shot. Paco Everetts short, quick shot in the 8thth minute got Marcos Cotilla to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Bath Boyce showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Berganza in the 10th minute of the match. 12 minutes had been played when some careless play by Boroondara Milan's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Abraham Alguacil was slow to take the kick. During this time Panama's players had a chance to rest. Panama's Isidoro Sarmiento was first on the ball when the corner was shot and he dangerously headed the ball towards goal, but Bath Boyce in the goal jumped up to prevent it from getting in. Arty Shearn charged in rather forcefully in the 13th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Arty Shearn the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Panama booed when Boroondara Milan was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 16 match minutes in a wonderful position. Drake Sobczak didn't get a good kick on the ball. Bath Boyce showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tomas Berganza in the 17th minute of the match. In the 18th minute Isidoro Sarmiento shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bath Boyce saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Abraham Alguacil received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Bath Boyce tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 24 minutes into the match, Tomas Berganza had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Bath Boyce. Boroondara Milan's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Tomas Berganza was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. Jason Sperling hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 28th minute, Tomas Berganza managed to get in a good position for a shot. Panama's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Berganza was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Bath Boyce breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 33 played minutes Boroondara Milan got a freekick which was hit by Paco Everett. Panama's Marcos Cotilla played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Paco Everett in the 35th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Paco Everett in the 37th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 41st match minute, Panama was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Felipe Ros to maneuver through the defense. Benny Atkin charged in rather forcefully in the 43rd minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Benny Atkin the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 44th minute of the match Abraham Alguacil shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bath Boyce showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. In the 46th minute Paco Everett shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Cotilla saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Berganza was the one to do the kick off. Marcos Cotilla showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Paco Everett, who was totally free with the ball in the 52nd minute. Marcos Cotilla made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Paco Everett in the 54th minute of play. After having played for 82 minutes, Jason Sperling managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Boroondara Milan's supporters crossed their fingers, but Jason Sperling was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Through an outstanding action, after 87 minutes, Bath Boyce successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. If Jason Sperling had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 96th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Panama's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
