Aritz Nafría took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Tomas Illescas, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Rigoberto Mina kicked well hit freekick during the 11th minute of the match. In the 13th minute, Gartzen Segura ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jonathan Ferrant was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-1. If Tomas Illescas had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 17th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Venezuela's Joshua Secada suffered a concussion after 21 minutes and had to leave the field. Tomas Illescas might have been able to make a better finish in the 28th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Aritz Nafría. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tomas Illescas ran back to his position shaking his head. In the 32nd minute, Tomas Illescas got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 36thth minute of the game Tomas Illescas who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Icaria's Aritz Nafría was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Herodes Barroso in the 43rd minute of play forced Venezuela's goalkeeper Jonathan Ferrant to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Herodes Barroso in the 45th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-1.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Tomas Illescas was the one to do the kick off. Aritz Nafría made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tomas Illescas in the 53rd minute of play. Patricio Costa recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 58th minute of the match Icaria got a corner. Venezuela's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Ion Vazquez ran over to the corner to take the kick. After a rather tough play, Venezuela's Jose Correa got a free kick in the 63rd minute. Jonathan Ferrant made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Gartzen Segura in the 66th minute of play. After 67 minutes of play Venezuela's Jose Correa was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. The supporters of Icaria booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 68 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jose Correa didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Tomas Illescas during the 71st minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Tomas Illescas kicked well hit freekick during the 72nd minute of the match. Herodes Barrosos short, quick shot in the 74thth minute got Jonathan Ferrant to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Aritz Nafría made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Patricio Costa in the 80th minute of play. In the 81st minute of the match Venezuela got a corner. Icaria's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tomas Illescas ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Venezuela's Tomas Illescas to fire away a dangerous shot which Aritz Nafría despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Patricio Costa sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After a rather tough play, Icaria's Ion Vazquez got a free kick in the 94th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 95th minute, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Patricio Costa was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Aritz Nafría breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. When the referee blew the final whistle jeers and boos were heard from the home team's supporters. They were angered to see Venezuela lose a match they had controlled from the kick-off.
