In the 19th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Saga TF's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner went over the outstretched arms of Saga TF's goalie and right to Felix Montes. He fired away a shot at goal, but the shot had too much spin, and it went just outside the goal. Saga TF's manager breathed a sigh of relief on the sidelines as his team had managed to escape an almost certain goal. Camilo Gisbert hit a great freekick 23 minutes into the match. The corner led Saga TF's Brian Laudrup to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. 31 minutes into the match, Saga TF's Erik Cantona sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Julio Vera narrowly saved just below the crossbar. An unexpectedly hard shot by Erik Cantona in the 60th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Daniel Zorita in the 75thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Joachim Forseth, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. 83 minutes into the match, Erik Cantona had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Julio Vera. Ecuador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Erik Cantona was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-1. After a rather tough play, Saga TF's Arne Botnen got a free kick in the 88th minute. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Saga TF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 90 match minutes in a wonderful position. Trond Gilde didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's supporters were dissatisfied at the end of the match because Saga TF had won, even though Ecuador had held more of the ball.
