Emürspor's defense didn't have a chance, in the 18th minute, when Daniel Zorita scored to the left of an out of position Ubelteso Fontiveros, making the score, 2-0. Through an outstanding action, after 25 minutes, Ubelteso Fontiveros successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Linus Scholtz, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. After a rather tough play, Emürspor's Hubertus Burger got a free kick in the 29th minute. In the 31st minute Linus Scholtz shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Emürspor booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 42 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera came out of the goal in the 43rd minute to try and stop a shot by Emürspor's Josip Schlebusch. But to his dismay, Josip Schlebusch quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-2. When Julius Sutanto fell near the penalty area in the 46th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Emürspor's protests and gave Julius Sutanto a yellow card for diving instead. In the 46th minute, Julius Sutanto hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Linus Scholtz to make the kick off. Ecuador were furious when Juan Sebastián Puig was red carded, 52 minutes into the game, but the referee dismissed their protests. Julio Vera had in the 55thth minute some difficulties stopping Linus Scholtz's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. After 87 minutes, Agustín Saelices mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Ecuador and the Emürspor players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 88th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agustín Saelices to maneuver through the defense. Linus Scholtz received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
