In the 20th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. A well-hit corner resulted in Juan Sebastián Puig heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luis Andino in the 22nd minute of play forced Vänge IF's goalkeeper Ciriaco Hernando to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Felix Montenegro's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ciriaco Hernando read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Daniel Zorita in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ciriaco Hernando saved Vänge IF from getting behind. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 26th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Mauro Otsoa's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 29thth minute, Julio Vera skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

Vänge IF's Markus Albäck was substituted for Mauro Otsoa. In the 60th minute, Markus Albäck got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Ciriaco Hernando showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Daniel Zoritas short, quick shot in the 68thth minute got Ciriaco Hernando to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 78th minute of the match, Cristian Sancho got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ciriaco Hernando was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post.
