After 7 minutes of play, Aro FC's Nate Drakenborg made it 1-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Julio Vera was left in no man's land by his defense there! After some fancy dribbling in the 11th minute, Agustín Saelices managed to get in a good position for a shot. Ecuador's supporters rose to their feet, but Agustín Saelices was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Harry Higuita breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Sune Svartengren scored 2-0 in the 12th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After some careless play in the Aro FC defense, Cristian Sancho kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Harry Higuita. The Aro FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Harry Higuita should have stopped the shot. In the 20th match minute, Aro FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Sven-Arne Berglund to maneuver through the defense. Harry Higuita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Cristian Sancho in the 21st minute of the match. Harry Higuita took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristian Sancho's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Harry Higuita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. Ecuador were awarded a corner in the 27th minute after Aro FC's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Daniel Zorita took the corner. Daniel Zorita received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Harry Higuita tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Sune Svartengren in the 31st minute of play. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Felix Montenegro sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 37 minutes into the match, Ecuador's Felix Montenegro sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Harry Higuita narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After taking down the ball on Ecuador's corner Felix Montes fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Harry Higuita quite easily take care of the ball. Nate Drakenborg scored 3-1 in the 47th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 3-1 at half-time.
The wind increased when Nate Drakenborg made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Sune Svartengren shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 54 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Sune Svartengren came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Harry Higuita made a fantastic save in the 57th minute, when Daniel Zorita sent off a good shot on target. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Sune Svartengren, who was totally free with the ball in the 59th minute. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 85th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 86 minutes, Nate Drakenborg mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Aro FC and the Ecuador players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 86th match minute, Aro FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Nate Drakenborg to maneuver through the defense. In the 89th match minute, Aro FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Errikos Tsagaris to maneuver through the defense. Ecuador's Cristian Sancho got a good chance for a goal in the 90th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Camilo Gisbert charged in rather forcefully in the 96th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Camilo Gisbert the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 96 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Camilo Gisbert. The Aro FC players were eager to celebrate when the final whistle sounded. They had somehow managed to win, even though the away team had held the majority of the possession.
