Jacobo Nores dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. Paraguay's Jacobo Nores played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by André Monclús in the 7th minute of play. In the 9th minute, André Monclús ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Jacobo Nores was frozen by the shot and now it was 0-2. A sloppy throw-in by Arnoldo Cordero in the 13th minute of the game went astray and was snapped up by Paraguay's Primitivo Escribano. If Hector Covarrubias had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 16th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 19th minute André Monclús shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Jacobo Nores saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After some careless play in the Paraguay defense, André Monclús kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jacobo Nores. The Paraguay fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jacobo Nores should have stopped the shot. Olle Snell hit a great freekick 26 minutes into the match. Branislav Velchevski made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Pardo in the 27th minute. After 28 minutes of play, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's André Monclús made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Jacobo Nores was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a couple of smart ball manuevers Elpidio Francis in the 31st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jacobo Nores saved Paraguay from getting behind. After 32 minutes, Juan Diego Tenorio mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Paraguay and the ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA players grew even worse after the yellow card. ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA made a substitution. Marcial Frasco replaced Olle Snell. After a rather tough play, Paraguay's Juan Diego Tenorio got a free kick in the 33rd minute. 34 minutes into the game, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's Elpidio Francis nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jacobo Nores made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-5. Jacobo Nores showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from André Monclús in the 38th minute of the match. When André Monclús fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's protests and gave André Monclús a yellow card for diving instead. Jaime Pardo hit a great freekick 46 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-5 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Elpidio Francis stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 55th minute, one of Paraguay:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for Paraguay. André Monclús made in the 59th minute of the game a throw-in that took a bad bounce and was taken care of by Paraguay's Xavier Zoido. 61 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's goal looked a bit too open when Jaime Pardo came free, but Branislav Velchevski reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 64th play minutes Elpidio Francis shot 0-7, a short shot which went by Jacobo Nores and just under the crossbar into goal. 69 minutes into the match, ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA's André Monclús sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacobo Nores narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Timoteo Basualdo hit a great freekick 70 minutes into the match. 77 minutes into the game, Elpidio Francis lined in a short shot 0-8 behind a frustrated Jacobo Nores. The crowd rose to their feet as André Monclús kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Jacobo Nores. That made the score 0-9 in the 81 minute of play. 85 minutes into the match, Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Elpidio Francis. In the 89th minute the ball was on its way in behind Paraguay's goalkeeper Jacobo Nores, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 91st minute ESTUDIANTES de la PLATA were awarded a corner. Esteban Iztal went to the cornerflag to take it. Elpidio Francis recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 94th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
