In the 35th minute, Peru's Luz Tejedor ran free of his marker and smoothly shot the ball into the goal behind Donato Ali. Donato Ali yelled at his defense, as they had left him out to dry. 1-1. 39 minutes in the game, Julian Murillo fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Donato Ali having to interfere. Flavio Miconi recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 40th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Julian Murillo to make the kick off. Donato Ali showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Julian Murillo, who was totally free with the ball in the 55th minute. Julian Murillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Donato Ali read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 76th minute of play. After having played for 79 minutes, Mauro Bezerra managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Schuster's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mauro Bezerra was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Schuster's Valer Stroici was substituted for Achille Passerini. Schuster made a substitution. Richy Hensmans replaced Musko Cuevas. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Peru fully deserved thier win.
