After 3 played minutes Costa Rica got a freekick which was hit by Juan Rubio. After a defensive mix-up in Costa Rica's zone, Orlando Abajas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benito Sanz came out of the goal and Orlando Abajas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 15th minute of the match, Orlando Abajas got a very nice opportunity to score, but Benito Sanz was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. In the 18th match minute, Gelp 22 was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Reimo Zaborowski to maneuver through the defense. Jaime Laurin took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Axel Tasis, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After having played for 21 minutes, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Costa Rica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eliseo Noboa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the last second Benito Sanz throw himself and got hold of the ball when Orlando Abajas in the 23rdth minute from his position got away a shot towards the right post. An unexpected shot in the 31st minute by Flavio Fonticoba got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Eliseo Noboa struck a weak shot in the 35th minute. Jaime Laurin didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Costa Rica. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Gelp 22 was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 38 match minutes in a wonderful position. Reimo Zaborowski didn't get a good kick on the ball. Fabricio Remicio's late challenge caught a Costa Rica's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Fabricio Remicio helped the player get up and apologised. Gelp 22 made a substitution. Natalio Froylan replaced Flavio Fonticoba. In the 93rd minute, Fabricio Remicio hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Eliseo Noboa fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 95th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jaime Laurin having to interfere. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Gelp 22 fully deserved thier win.
