An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 18th minute of play forced . SC Manhattan .'s goalkeeper Mazarópi Barros to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Chico Valadares came up free with the goalie in the 22nd minute, the . SC Manhattan . fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Chico Valadares couldn't finish the play. Ecuador's Julio Vera proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 26th minute of the match, managed to save Ecuador from getting a goal against them. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Chico Valadares in the 28th minute of play. Chico Valadares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 29th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 29 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Chico Valadares came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mazarópi Barros dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-1. 39 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Chico Valadares came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Chico Valadares sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Chico Valadares, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Julio Vera made a fantastic save in the 41st minute, when Wilton Valladares sent off a good shot on target. If Washington Netto had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 48th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.

Chico Valadares recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 90th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Daniel Zorita might have been able to make a better finish in the 93rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Mazarópi Barros. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Daniel Zorita ran back to his position shaking his head. When Felix Montenegro came up free with the goalie in the 94th minute, the Ecuador fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Felix Montenegro couldn't finish the play. In the 96th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Agustín Saelices to maneuver through the defense. In the 97th minute, Van Dijk got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. When the referee blew the final whistle, . SC Manhattan . could leave the field as winners, despite Ecuador having more of the ball for most of the match.
