BOCA JUNIORS's goalkeeper Benny Stolpe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Luis Andino. In the 20th match minute, Ecuador was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Camilo Gisbert to maneuver through the defense. Daniel Zorita's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 24thth minute, Benny Stolpe skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Manuel Ciomag kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Juan Sebastián Puig struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Benny Stolpe didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. Daniel Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 34th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 2-0 became the score in the 35th minute when Cristian Sancho elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. The audience thought a goal was coming when Daniel Zorita got free with Benny Stolpe in the 40th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The referee felt a red card was in order, 42 minutes into the game, when Antonio Arias put in a rough tackle. After 42 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for Ecuador! The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-1 at half-time.

An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 52nd minute of play forced C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's goalkeeper Benny Stolpe to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 53 minutes into the match, C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's goal looked a bit too open when Cristian Sancho came free, but Benny Stolpe reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 55th minute Ecuador were awarded a corner. Daniel Zorita went to the cornerflag to take it. The corner led Ecuador's Felix Montes to fire away a dangerous shot which Benny Stolpe despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 57th minute. Benny Stolpe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 64 minutes into the match, Cristian Sancho had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Benny Stolpe. C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Cristian Sancho was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 3-1. Ecuador's Luis Andino got a good chance for a goal in the 71st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Prospero Avellaneda came up free with the goalie in the 72nd minute, the C.A. BOCA JUNIORS fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Prospero Avellaneda couldn't finish the play. In the 76th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After a defensive mix-up in C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's zone, Luis Andino stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Benny Stolpe came out of the goal and Luis Andino tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. C.A. BOCA JUNIORS's Cesar Garcia got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. If Cristian Sancho had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 87 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Anselmo Gai came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Ecuador's Julio Vera got control of the ball when Freddy Basajaun tried to sneak it across the goal line. Cristian Sancho received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 90th minute. Benny Stolpe tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Benny Stolpe showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Luis Andino, who was totally free with the ball in the 94th minute. A well-hit corner resulted in Felix Montes heading the ball towards the goal, but to his dismay he misdirected it and missed the goal completely. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Ecuador fully deserved thier win.
