Hammarby Sjöstad IF's supporters rose to their feet, but Tage Levander was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Benito Sanz breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 24th minute, Costa Rica's Eliseo Noboa dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 1-0. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Fabian Dalström during the 28th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 28th match minute, Hammarby Sjöstad IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fabian Dalström to maneuver through the defense. Jens-Ove Lidman recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 31st minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After having played for 33 minutes, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Costa Rica's supporters crossed their fingers, but Eliseo Noboa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The audience thought a goal was coming when Axel Tasis got free with Anders Runberg in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jon Rosin blasted a shot towards the goal in the 42nd minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Benito Sanz having to make a save. Tage Levander struck a weak shot in the 44th minute. Benito Sanz didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hammarby Sjöstad IF. A collision led to Hammarby Sjöstad IF getting a freekick after 45 minutes play. Fabian Dalström hit a great ball. Axel Tasis hit a great freekick 47 minutes into the match. No-one was surprised that the home team were leading 1-0 at half-time.

Tage Levander could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 53rd minute of the match, but Benito Sanz made a huge save. In the 54th minute, Paul Öberg hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 56th match minute, Hammarby Sjöstad IF was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Fabian Dalström to maneuver through the defense. Eliseo Noboa kicked well hit freekick during the 58th minute of the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Eliseo Noboa managed to get in a good position for a shot. Anders Runberg made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 2-0. Jens-Ove Lidman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 85th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Hammarby Sjöstad IF was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 95 match minutes in a wonderful position. Henry Kullgren didn't get a good kick on the ball. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The Costa Rica fans cheered their team off the field, for while Hammarby Sjöstad IF had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
