When Rigoberto Mina fell near the penalty area in the 18th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Venezuela's protests and gave Rigoberto Mina a yellow card for diving instead. 20 minutes into the game, Newell´s's Tadeo Jakobe nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. After some fancy dribbling in the 26th minute, Tomas Illescas managed to get in a good position for a shot. Venezuela's supporters rose to their feet, but Tomas Illescas was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Cristobal Estavan breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Tomas Illescas struck a weak shot in the 28th minute. Cristobal Estavan didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Venezuela. 30 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Patricio Costa came free, but Cristobal Estavan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Amancio Bilintx in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jonathan Ferrant saved Venezuela from getting behind. Tomas Illescas could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 33rd minute of the match, but Cristobal Estavan made a huge save. When the match had gone on for 38 minutes, Amancio Bilintx put it in 0-4 from a short distance just to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tadeo Jakobe in the 42nd minute of play. In the 43rdth minute of the game Amancio Bilintx who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tadeo Jakobe in the 45th minute of play. Omar Cordara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jonathan Ferrant having to interfere. Tadeo Jakobe sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Disappointed in the 0-4 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

With a little luck, Venezuela's Jonathan Ferrant got control of the ball when Tadeo Jakobe tried to sneak it across the goal line. In the 59th minute, Amancio Bilintx left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Newell´s fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-6. When the match had gone on for 65 minutes, Tadeo Jakobe took a quick shot and it went in 0-7 without a chance for Jonathan Ferrant to make any attempt to save it. In the 72nd minute of the match, Amancio Bilintx tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Jonathan Ferrant saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. The supporters of Newell´s booed when Venezuela was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 73 match minutes in a wonderful position. Tomas Illescas didn't get a good kick on the ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tadeo Jakobe got free with Jonathan Ferrant in the 93rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Jonathan Ferrant acted impressively in front of the goal and made a superb save when he, in the 94th minute, took the ball on the long shot from Faustino Maura. In the 95th match minute, Newell´s was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Clemente Benat to maneuver through the defense. When the match was over Newell´s could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Venezuela throughout the match.
