An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 19th minute of play forced Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goalkeeper Herb Good to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 20 minutes into the game, Jean Britton cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 1-0. Dante Lacasa was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Joel Gaona in the 27th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Herb Good saved Sport Lisboa e Benfica from getting behind. Herb Good made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joel Gaona in the 29th minute of play. In the 31st minute Lautaro Mancebo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Herb Good saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Mexico's Leonardo Leoz got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Herb Good played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 38th minute of play. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Jean Britton's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Dante Lacasa read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 65th minute of play. 70 minutes into the match, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's goal looked a bit too open when Joel Gaona came free, but Herb Good reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Herb Good made an important save on a dangerous shot by Joel Gaona in the 73rd minute. In the 74th minute, Trey Easley hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. With a little luck, Sport Lisboa e Benfica's Herb Good got control of the ball when Alberto Tafalla tried to sneak it across the goal line. 93 minutes into the match, Jean Britton notched a goal, 2-2, to the right of Mexico's Dante Lacasa. Dante Lacasa was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Mexico were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
