If Indiana Turban had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 10th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 12th match minute, Mexico was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lorenzo Cazalla to maneuver through the defense. Newell´s's Cristobal Estavan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Newell´s from getting a goal against them. If Luca Zorita had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 15th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Mexico's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Joel Gaona in the 22nd minute. A nice corner shot did that Facundo Cadaval got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Cristobal Estavan quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. With an all-out effort, Mexico's Cristobal Estavan threw himself towards the right post 24 minutes into the match and grabbed hold of the ball from Luca Zorita, which otherwise would have been placed in the net. A collision led to Newell´s getting a freekick after 29 minutes play. Tadeo Jakobe hit a great ball. Dante Lacasa made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Mattias Wallengren in the 31st minute of play. In the 33rd match minute, Newell´s was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tadeo Jakobe to maneuver through the defense. In the 34th minute Joel Gaona shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Cristobal Estavan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Cristobal Estavan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 37th minute of play. Newell´s's Cristobal Estavan played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Luca Zorita in the 39th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 44th minute of play forced Newell´s's goalkeeper Cristobal Estavan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Cristobal Estavan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luca Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tadeo Jakobe to make the kick off. In the 52nd minute, Newell´s's Mattias Wallengren dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-1. Dante Lacasa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Indiana Turban, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. After some careless play in the Newell´s defense, Alberto Tafalla kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Cristobal Estavan. The Newell´s fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Cristobal Estavan should have stopped the shot. In the 70th match minute, Newell´s was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Faustino Maura to maneuver through the defense. In the 71st minute, Tadeo Jakobe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Joel Gaona fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 74th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Cristobal Estavan having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alberto Tafalla in the 77th minute of play forced Newell´s's goalkeeper Cristobal Estavan to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dante Lacasa made an important save on a dangerous shot by Faustino Maura in the 79th minute. If Tadeo Jakobe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Despite being the better team, Mexico failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
