After some careless play in the Venezuela defense, Stig Malmgren kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Jonathan Ferrant. The Venezuela fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Jonathan Ferrant should have stopped the shot. Alex Chicote's late challenge caught a union española s.a.'s player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Alex Chicote helped the player get up and apologised. In the 19th match minute, Venezuela was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Alex Chicote to maneuver through the defense. Victoriano Arana kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. 46 minutes into the game, union española s.a.'s Stig Malmgren nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Jonathan Ferrant made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-4. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-4 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Enrique Enoch showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Patricio Costa, who was totally free with the ball in the 96th minute. The union española s.a. supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing union española s.a. would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
