Spectators: 44 (Terracing: 34, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Amancio Bilintx took the kick off in the first half of the match. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Tadeo Jakobe in the 5th minute of play. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Tadeo Jakobe in the 7th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Omar Cordara's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Julio Vera read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 9th minute of play. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 15th minute of the match, but Cristobal Estavan made a huge save. Julio Vera took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Amancio Bilintx, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tadeo Jakobe might have been able to make a better finish in the 24th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Julio Vera. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Tadeo Jakobe ran back to his position shaking his head. Omar Cordara struck a weak shot in the 25th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newell´s. Omar Cordara fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Isidoro Ramires charged in rather forcefully in the 34th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Isidoro Ramires the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Felix Montenegro got free with Cristobal Estavan in the 35th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Omar Cordara in the 39th minute of play. 42 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Tadeo Jakobe came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Newell´s was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 46 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isidoro Ramires didn't get a good kick on the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Newell´s's zone, Daniel Zorita stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Cristobal Estavan came out of the goal and Daniel Zorita tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. After 55 minutes of play, Ecuador's Daniel Zorita made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Cristobal Estavan was left in no man's land by his defense there! Newell´s's Tadeo Jakobe got a good chance for a goal in the 62nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Omar Cordara received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Julio Vera tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Cristobal Estavan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Felix Montes, who was totally free with the ball in the 73rd minute. The audience was convinced that Daniel Zorita's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Cristobal Estavan was relentless in the 75th minute of the game. Cristobal Estavan made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 79th minute of play. After some fancy dribbling in the 82nd minute, Omar Cordara managed to get in a good position for a shot. Newell´s's supporters rose to their feet, but Omar Cordara was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Cristobal Estavan took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. A collision led to Newell´s getting a freekick after 92 minutes play. Omar Cordara hit a great ball. Cristobal Estavan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Cristian Sancho, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. When Tadeo Jakobe came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Newell´s fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Tadeo Jakobe couldn't finish the play. The crowd rose to their feet and cheered when the referee blew the final whistle. Ecuador had won after a very even match.
