Unfortunately, he didn't get a great hit on the ball and it went out into the grandstand. In the 18th minute, Lautaro Puig got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Benito Sanz made a fantastic save in the 20th minute, when Oswaldo Maranhense sent off a good shot on target. 26 minutes into the game, Gwidon Cwojdak recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Benito Sanz. Gwidon Cwojdak showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 3-0. Benito Sanz showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from 余永川 in the 29th minute of the match. In the 35th minute Cruzeiro Esporte Clube were awarded a corner. Oswaldo Maranhense went to the cornerflag to take it. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Oswaldo Maranhense managed to get in a good position for a shot. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube's supporters rose to their feet, but Oswaldo Maranhense was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 4-0 at half-time.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and 余永川 made a kick off. If Gwidon Cwojdak had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience was convinced that Gwidon Cwojdak's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Benito Sanz was relentless in the 54th minute of the game. In the 56th minute 余永川 shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Benito Sanz saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 57th minute, Gwidon Cwojdak left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Cruzeiro Esporte Clube fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 5-0. When the match clock showed 62 minutes, the score became 6-0 when Oswaldo Maranhense sped through Costa Rica's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Benito Sanz. The supporters of Costa Rica booed when Cruzeiro Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 66 match minutes in a wonderful position. Isidro Ferman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Cruzeiro Esporte Clube had played much better football throughout.
