In the 42nd minute of the match Peru got a corner. Newell´s's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Luz Tejedor ran over to the corner to take the kick. The corner led Peru's Alonso Berganza to fire away a dangerous shot which Cristobal Estavan despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Julian Murillo might have been able to make a better finish in the 44th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Cristobal Estavan. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Julian Murillo ran back to his position shaking his head. Cristobal Estavan came out of the goal in the 48th minute to try and stop a shot by Peru's Milagros Fraga. But to his dismay, Milagros Fraga quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 3-0. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 3-0 at half-time.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Julian Murillo to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Amancio Bilintx in the 53rd minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. With a little luck, Peru's Rolando Noboa got control of the ball when Omar Cordara tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rolando Noboa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Indiana Turban in the 56th minute of the match. 57 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Luz Tejedor came free, but Cristobal Estavan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Rolando Noboa took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Omar Cordara, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Cristobal Estavan was left in no man's land by his defense there! 76 minutes into the match, Newell´s's goal looked a bit too open when Julian Murillo came free, but Cristobal Estavan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The corner ended in Moises Gayoso almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but Newell´s's Cristobal Estavan did a great save. Omar Cordara's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 81stth minute, Rolando Noboa skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Rolando Noboa showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Amancio Bilintx, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute.
