Julian Murillo took the ball and in the 23 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Alfonso Nicolini. Alfonso Nicolini dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Achille Micarelli's late challenge caught a Peru's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Achille Micarelli helped the player get up and apologised. Achille Micarelli kicked well hit freekick during the 36th minute of the match. Alberto Di Maria kicked well hit freekick during the 39th minute of the match. In the 43rd minute Julian Murillo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Alfonso Nicolini saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpectedly hard shot by Alfredo Mastrocola in the 45th minute of play forced Peru's goalkeeper Rolando Noboa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Carlo Pellecchia was the one to do the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Luz Tejedor in the 54th minute of play forced Deportivo De La Prugna's goalkeeper Alfonso Nicolini to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Julian Murillo's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Alfonso Nicolini read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 55th minute of play. Peru's Julian Murillo got a good chance for a goal in the 57th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Deportivo De La Prugna's Alfonso Nicolini played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 59th minute of play. 64 minutes into the match, Peru's goal looked a bit too open when Carlo Pellecchia came free, but Rolando Noboa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Everyone was convinced a goal was close when Peru's Julian Murillo in the 66th minute lifted the ball towards the upper right corner, but Alfonso Nicolini was perfectly placed and prevented a goal for Deportivo De La Prugna through an amazing save. Deportivo De La Prugna's Alfonso Nicolini played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Julian Murillo in the 83rd minute of play. The supporters of Deportivo De La Prugna booed when Peru was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Emmanuel Reyes didn't get a good kick on the ball. The Peru supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Peru would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
