Espen Hollner charged in rather forcefully in the 6th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Espen Hollner the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 10th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. After having played for 13 minutes, Mai Chuan managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Muqui FC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mai Chuan was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. When the match had gone on for 15 minutes, Mai Chuan took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Julio Vera to make any attempt to save it. Best Taffarel made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Daniel Zorita in the 18th minute of play. After 19 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Felix Montes. The supporters of Muqui FC booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 21 match minutes in a wonderful position. Felix Montes didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita got a good chance for a goal in the 25th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. 28 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goal looked a bit too open when Gabi Orange came free, but Julio Vera reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Best Taffarel took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Daniel Zorita, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mai Chuan in the 34th minute of play. In the 38th minute Mai Chuan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Matheus Brodel came up free with the goalie in the 40th minute, the Muqui FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Matheus Brodel couldn't finish the play. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.
When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Gabi Orange made a kick off. Best Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Cristian Sancho in the 54th minute. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Best Taffarel having to interfere. Cristian Sancho sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. An unexpectedly hard shot by Gabi Orange in the 58th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 60th minute Mai Chuan shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Julio Vera saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Muqui FC were awarded a corner in the 62th minute after Ecuador's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Mauro Eate took the corner. In the 64th minute the ball was on its way in behind Muqui FC's goalkeeper Best Taffarel, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. 65 minutes into the game, Felix Montenegro was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Ecuador's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Muqui FC the free kick. Felix Montenegro kicked well hit freekick during the 65th minute of the match. In the 67th minute, Espen Hollner hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a rather tough play, Muqui FC's Espen Hollner got a free kick in the 69th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 70th minute, Gabi Orange managed to get in a good position for a shot. Muqui FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Gabi Orange was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Julio Vera breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Espen Hollner hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. In the 78th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Muqui FC's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Daniel Zorita ran over to the corner to take the kick. After 79 played minutes Muqui FC got a freekick which was hit by Luiz Fernando de Azevedo. Best Taffarel made an important save on a dangerous shot by Daniel Zorita in the 81st minute. After a defensive mix-up in Ecuador's zone, Gabi Orange stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Julio Vera came out of the goal and Gabi Orange tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 87th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Best Taffarel saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Daniel Zorita fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Best Taffarel having to interfere. Ecuador were disappointed that they only managed a draw, even though they felt themselves to be the better team.
