Spectators: 44 (Terracing: 34, Seating: 10, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Daniel Zorita could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 13th minute of the match, but Cristobal Estavan made a huge save. Cristian Sancho's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Cristobal Estavan firmly grabbed it by the left post. Tadeo Jakobe fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 18th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Julio Vera having to interfere. Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Omar Cordara in the 20th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Newell´s's Tadeo Jakobe got a free kick in the 22nd minute. Tadeo Jakobe scored 0-2 in the 26th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Julio Vera, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Mattias Wallengren's shot from short distance in the 31st minute. 36 minutes had been played when some careless play by Ecuador's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Indiana Turban was slow to take the kick. During this time Newell´s's players had a chance to rest. Leopoldo Ferrer hit a great freekick 39 minutes into the match. Ecuador's Daniel Zorita shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 40th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Cristobal Estavan but with some difficulty. After 45 played minutes Ecuador got a freekick which was hit by Juan Sebastián Puig. Indiana Turban struck a weak shot in the 45th minute. Julio Vera didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Newell´s.

The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Newell´s eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
