The Gremio Viana players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Peru were winning 0-1.

The wind increased when Joaquim Paredes made the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, Joaquim Paredes had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rolando Noboa. Peru's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Joaquim Paredes was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-1. In the 64th minute, Joaquim Paredes got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Gremio Viana made a substitution. Carlos Luna replaced Joaquim Paredes. Gremio Viana's Samuel Fiúza proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Gremio Viana from getting a goal against them.
