Felix Montenegro struck a weak shot in the 26th minute. Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ecuador. In the 36th minute of the match Ecuador got a corner. Club Atlético Escocia's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. An unexpectedly hard shot by Leonel Caponi in the 42nd minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. A collision led to Ecuador getting a freekick after 43 minutes play. Felix Montenegro hit a great ball. After fighting hard for a draw in the first half, the players were able to take a much needed rest.

Julio Vera made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Leonel Caponi in the 55th minute of play. After 58 minutes Ecuador's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Jonas Tauro who took care of the corner kick. An unexpectedly hard shot by Cristian Sancho in the 65th minute of play forced Club Atlético Escocia's goalkeeper Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Through an outstanding action, after 66 minutes, Julio Vera successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. When Ecuador's Daniel Zorita in 67 game minutes managed to cut through with the ball in front of the goal, only having to shoot. Roberto-Carlos Abbondanzieri guarding the goal like a pit bull was extremely focused and managed to reach the ball just by the crossbar before it went in. Club Atlético Escocia were delighted with the way they had won the match. They had held their defensive line well and made the most of their chances, to claim a victory over Ecuador's much stronger midfield.
