The audience was convinced that Célio Mangueira's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joaquin Gayoso was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Célio Mangueira was slow to take the kick. During this time Joinville Esporte Clube's players had a chance to rest. Wellington Montenegro made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaime Cazalla in the 36th minute of play. Joinville Esporte Clube's defense didn't have a chance, in the 38th minute, when Maximiliano Escribano scored to the left of an out of position Wellington Montenegro, making the score, 2-0. Wellington Montenegro made a fantastic save in the 43rd minute, when Francisco Seco sent off a good shot on target. Joinville Esporte Clube's Wellington Montenegro proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 48th minute of the match, managed to save Joinville Esporte Clube from getting a goal against them. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

After having played for 56 minutes, Francisco Seco managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Uruguay's supporters crossed their fingers, but Francisco Seco was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Célio Mangueira in the 58th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Joaquin Gayoso prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Francisco Seco sent away a hard shot on goal in the 60th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After 64 minutes of play, Uruguay's Francisco Seco made it 3-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Wellington Montenegro was left in no man's land by his defense there! Deivid Vaz sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 71 minutes into the game, Alberto Gisbert cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 4-0. Wellington Montenegro was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Gonçalo Catarinense struck a weak shot in the 74th minute. Joaquin Gayoso didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Joinville Esporte Clube. Uruguay's attentive Alberto Gisbert managed to snatch the ball when Flavinho Fantini made a throw-in in the 76th minute of the game. Wellington Montenegro showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jaime Cazalla, who was totally free with the ball in the 78th minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Célio Mangueira in the 83rd minute of play forced Uruguay's goalkeeper Joaquin Gayoso to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The supporters of Uruguay booed when Joinville Esporte Clube was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 85 match minutes in a wonderful position. Geovanni Leite didn't get a good kick on the ball. Camilo Franco hit a great freekick 97 minutes into the match. It was no surprise that this one had ended in a win for the home team. Uruguay had played much better football throughout.
