But to his dismay, Gerrie Kuijsten quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jaime Pardo got free with Serge Buring in the 16th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Serge Buring didn't succeed to prevent the ball from going into goal when Paraguay's Jaime Pardo shot an unexpected shot in the crossbar's under edge and made 1-1 in the ordered_time% minute. A throw-in in the 24th minute of the game was made by Juan Diego Tenorio with Hector Covarrubias as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. If Sjoerd Ottenhof had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Serge Buring made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jaime Pardo in the 41st minute. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Jaime Pardo made a kick off. Serge Buring took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jaime Pardo, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Serge Buring made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaime Pardo in the 52nd minute of play. Hector Covarrubias might have been able to make a better finish in the 53rd minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Serge Buring. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Hector Covarrubias ran back to his position shaking his head. Hector Covarrubias fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Serge Buring having to interfere. Serge Buring made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Jaime Pardo in the 58th minute of play. The supporters of Paraguay booed when Ágætis Byrjun was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 72 match minutes in a wonderful position. Marcus Zaagman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Serge Buring stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jaime Pardo's shot from short distance in the 80th minute. Paraguay were awarded a corner in the 81th minute after Ágætis Byrjun's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Jaime Pardo took the corner. At last the ball reached Xavier Zoido at the corner, ending with a kick to difficult to stop for the goalkeeper of Ágætis Byrjun. 4-1.
