The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 5thth minute of the game Joep Ponk who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Joep Ponk scored 0-1 in the 7th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ricardo Zorita, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. After 16 minutes of play, Ágætis Byrjun's Joep Ponk made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Ricardo Zorita was left in no man's land by his defense there! Ricardo Zorita showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Joep Ponk in the 19th minute of the match. After some careless play in the El Salvador defense, Joep Ponk kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. The El Salvador fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ricardo Zorita should have stopped the shot. When the match had gone on for 26 minutes, Joep Ponk put it in 0-5 from a short distance just to the right of Ricardo Zorita. In the 28th minute, Marco Tamayo hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 30th minute Joep Ponk shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ricardo Zorita saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The audience thought a goal was coming when Moises Fernandino got free with Georg Hagberg in the 32nd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Joep Ponk took the ball and in the 34 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Ricardo Zorita. Ricardo Zorita dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-6. Nick Heesen scored 0-7 in the 38th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Ricardo Zorita, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. When the match clock showed 42 minutes, the score became 0-8 when Manolo Bartumeu sped through El Salvador's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Ricardo Zorita. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Joep Ponk in the 47th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ricardo Zorita prevented the ball from getting in the gole.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Moises Fernandino stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After 55th play minutes Joep Ponk shot 0-9, a short shot which went by Ricardo Zorita and just under the crossbar into goal. Manolo Bartumeu fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 58th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ricardo Zorita having to interfere. 60 minutes into the match, Nick Heesen had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Ricardo Zorita. El Salvador's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Nick Heesen was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-10. In the 63rd minute, Manolo Bartumeu reached a very good position and smashed the ball with a huge effort into the net, just to the left of Ricardo Zorita. The goal made the score 0-11. Ágætis Byrjun made a substitution. Gitano Rubiero replaced Manolo Bartumeu. Nick Heesen's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ricardo Zorita read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 72nd minute of play. 75 minutes into the match, Ágætis Byrjun's Nick Heesen sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Ricardo Zorita narrowly saved just below the crossbar. When the match had gone on for 78 minutes, Nick Heesen took a quick shot and it went in 0-13 without a chance for Ricardo Zorita to make any attempt to save it. Ricardo Zorita was a little too slow when Nick Heesen got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 81st minute. The score was now 0-14. Nick Heesen blasted a shot towards the goal in the 84th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Ricardo Zorita having to make a save. 84 minutes into the match, El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Nick Heesen. The audience thought a goal was coming when Nick Heesen got free with Ricardo Zorita in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. The Ágætis Byrjun fans' excitement grew in the 88th match minute when Ágætis Byrjun's Nick Heesen looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-15 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. El Salvador's Ricardo Zorita played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ditlev Delmont in the 91st minute of play. After 92 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for El Salvador! In the 96th minute the ball was on its way in behind El Salvador's goalkeeper Ricardo Zorita, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar.
