Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Leopoldo Otsando, who was totally free with the ball in the 70th minute. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Ecuador reached it. Chants of Furia Albiceleste echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as Ecuador had held the ball for most of the match.
