Carlisle United's Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 11th minute of the match, managed to save Carlisle United from getting a goal against them. In the 13th minute, Cristian Sancho got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that Thomas Winfield's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Julio Vera was relentless in the 20th minute of the game. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Thomas Winfield in the 21st minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Julio Vera prevented the ball from getting in the gole. An unexpectedly hard shot by 洪振义 in the 37th minute of play forced Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Thomas Jan in the 43rd minute of play. In the 45th minute of the match, Daniel Zorita got a very nice opportunity to score, but Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Daniel Zorita was the one to do the kick off. In the 55th minute Daniel Zorita shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Sol Leyburn hit a great freekick 55 minutes into the match. In the 59th minute, Antonio Arias hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Daniel Zorita recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 62nd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The corner led Carlisle United's 洪振义 to fire away a dangerous shot which Julio Vera despite some difficulties managed to get hold on the ball. Julio Vera showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from 洪振义, who was totally free with the ball in the 67th minute. Felix Montenegro fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 69th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan having to interfere. Carlisle United's Trev Clarkson was substituted for Andreas Forsberg. Thomas Winfield charged in rather forcefully in the 79th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. A throw-in in the 90th minute of the game was made by Camilo Gisbert with Luis Andino as target, who quickly passed the ball forward. The supporters of Ecuador booed when Carlisle United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Mark Mager didn't get a good kick on the ball. For all the effort they put into the match, the Carlisle United players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Ecuador.
