After having played for 15 minutes, Patricio Costa managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Venezuela's supporters crossed their fingers, but Patricio Costa was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 1-1 became the score in the 21st minute when 洪振义 elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. With his leg Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan managed to avoid a goal in the 26thth minute, when Venezuela's Tomas Illescas fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 张学友 楚城 charged in rather forcefully in the 27th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed 张学友 楚城 the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. 张学友 楚城 hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. After a defensive mix-up in Carlisle United's zone, Tomas Illescas stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan came out of the goal and Tomas Illescas tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 40th minute of the match Venezuela got a corner. Carlisle United's goalie ran out to the linesman to protest the call, but the linesman resolutely pointed his flag at the cornerflag. Tomas Illescas ran over to the corner to take the kick. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling 洪振义 in the 45th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jonathan Ferrant prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 1-2 lead.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Tomas Illescas to strike the kick off in the second half. Thomas Winfield was extremely unlucky when he, in the 54th minute, took a shot that hit the right post and went out. 57 minutes into the match, Carlisle United's goal looked a bit too open when Tomas Illescas came free, but Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Venezuela's attacker deliberately struck the ball against an opponent to win a corner for his team. The corner was taken by Tomas Illescas in the 60th minute. A nice corner shot did that Salvador Gisbert got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. 62 minutes into the game, Thomas Winfield recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Jonathan Ferrant. Thomas Winfield showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 1-3. 洪振义 sent away a hard shot on goal in the 70th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Carlisle United made a substitution. Trev Clarkson replaced Andreas Forsberg. 75 minutes into the match, 洪振义 dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Jonathan Ferrant, 1-4. 78 minutes into the match, Carlisle United's 洪振义 sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jonathan Ferrant narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Tomas Illescas kicked well hit freekick during the 82nd minute of the match. 85 minutes into the game, Tomas Illescas cracked a shot to the right of the goalkeeper, 2-4. Mehmet Hakkı Oğuzkan was not in position, and could only watch the ball fly in. Thomas Winfield's shot straight on target was not completely harmless. The ball had pretty good speed, but Jonathan Ferrant firmly grabbed it by the left post. After 95 played minutes Carlisle United got a freekick which was hit by Trev Clarkson. When the match was over Carlisle United could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Venezuela throughout the match.
