But to his dismay, Kraig Fred quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. 18 minutes into the match, Ecuador's goalkeeper Julio Vera had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kraig Fred. In the 19th minute Felix Montenegro shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marcos Ranolfo saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marcos Ranolfo took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Luis Andino, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Kraig Fred sent away a hard shot on goal in the 24th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Estudiantes de América's Marcos Ranolfo played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Daniel Zorita in the 31st minute of play. Camilo Gisbert got a throw-in 32 minutes in the game and the ball was received by Luis Andino. The supporters of Estudiantes de América booed when Ecuador was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 34 match minutes in a wonderful position. Agustín Saelices didn't get a good kick on the ball. Julio Vera showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Kraig Fred in the 35th minute of the match. When the match clock showed 56 minutes, the score became 3-1 when Cristian Sancho sped through Estudiantes de América's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Marcos Ranolfo. Ecuador's Julio Vera played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Orlando Beltza in the 61st minute of play. In the 94th minute Estudiantes de América were awarded a corner. Maximo Dei went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Estudiantes de América's corner Maximo Dei fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Julio Vera quite easily take care of the ball. Julio Vera stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Concetto Trasatti's shot from short distance in the 96th minute. The Estudiantes de América support was delighted with a win in a match that could easily have ended differently.
