Matthias Reiter received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 15th minute. Jacobo Nores tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Paraguay were awarded a corner in the 18th minute after KFC Hansa's defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Jaime Pardo took the corner. The corner ended in Juan Diego Tenorio almost managing to get the ball behind the net, but KFC Hansa's Ole Per Köppen did a great save. Matthias Reiter blasted a shot towards the goal in the 24th minute, but the shot hit the top of the crossbar and went out without Jacobo Nores having to make a save. Jaime Pardo fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 30th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ole Per Köppen having to interfere. In the 34th minute Raul Venegas suffered a thigh injury and had to be helped off the field. When Matthias Reiter fell near the penalty area in the 34th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored KFC Hansa's protests and gave Matthias Reiter a yellow card for diving instead. Paraguay's Fernando Amengual was substituted for Raul Venegas. After 36 played minutes KFC Hansa got a freekick which was hit by Matthias Reiter. After having played for 41 minutes, Joost Schlüter managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. KFC Hansa's supporters crossed their fingers, but Joost Schlüter was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A collision led to Paraguay getting a freekick after 42 minutes play. Hector Covarrubias hit a great ball. In the 46th minute Jaime Pardo shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ole Per Köppen saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Joost Schlüter was the one to do the kick off. Jacobo Nores made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Joost Schlüter in the 52nd minute of play. Joost Schlüter struck a weak shot in the 53rd minute. Jacobo Nores didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. Jacobo Nores made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. 61 minutes into the match, KFC Hansa's Matthias Reiter sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Jacobo Nores narrowly saved just below the crossbar. 63 minutes into the game, Jaime Pardo lined in a short shot 1-1 behind a frustrated Ole Per Köppen. When Jaime Pardo came up free with the goalie in the 68th minute, the Paraguay fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jaime Pardo couldn't finish the play. Oliver Scholl made a great header on KFC Hansa's corner, it was just that Paraguay's Jacobo Nores managed to reach the ball for a save. In the 83rd minute, Loy Schwerinski hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Paraguay's Jaime Pardo got a good chance for a goal in the 84th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 85th minute, Filiberto Jakobe hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Jaime Pardo sent away a hard shot on goal in the 87th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ole Per Köppen stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jaime Pardo's shot from short distance in the 90th minute. The supporters of KFC Hansa booed when Paraguay was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 92 match minutes in a wonderful position. Xavier Zoido didn't get a good kick on the ball. Despite being the better team, Paraguay failed to find the winning goal and were forced to settle for a single point.
