After a defensive mix-up in Boca Juniors's zone, Tomas Berganza stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Evaristo Pena came out of the goal and Tomas Berganza tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Abraham Alguacil sent away a hard shot on goal in the 39th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 40th match minute, Boca Juniors was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Severiano Mann to maneuver through the defense. In the 41st minute, Ramon Urtats hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 44th minute, Tomas Berganza got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.

After 50 minutes, Abraham Alguacil mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Panama and the Boca Juniors players grew even worse after the yellow card. An unexpectedly hard shot by Severiano Mann in the 79th minute of play forced Panama's goalkeeper Marcos Cotilla to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Alex Cambeiro received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 87th minute. Evaristo Pena tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Boca Juniors's Evaristo Pena played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tomas Berganza in the 89th minute of play. Evaristo Pena made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Isidoro Sarmiento in the 91st minute of play. The crowd rose to their feet as Severiano Mann kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Marcos Cotilla. That made the score 0-3 in the 93 minute of play.
