The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Joakim Vennerlund in the 8th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. 9 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Joakim Vennerlund came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 16th match minute, Newcastle United F.C. was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Yngve Hök to maneuver through the defense. When Alberto Tafalla came up free with the goalie in the 17th minute, the Mexico fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Alberto Tafalla couldn't finish the play. After 20 played minutes Newcastle United F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Bengt Arhenius. In the 22nd minute Aydın Tor shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Dante Lacasa saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Lautaro Mancebo could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Rasmus Sigman made a huge save. After 24 played minutes Newcastle United F.C. got a freekick which was hit by Fredrik Glanselius. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Aydın Tor made a kick off. After 55 played minutes Mexico got a freekick which was hit by Alberto Tafalla. Luca Zorita sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Mexico booed when Newcastle United F.C. was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 59 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zlatan Malmberg didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Zlatan Malmberg in the 64th minute of play forced Mexico's goalkeeper Dante Lacasa to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After some careless play in the Newcastle United F.C. defense, Lautaro Mancebo kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Rasmus Sigman. The Newcastle United F.C. fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Rasmus Sigman should have stopped the shot. Dante Lacasa showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Aydın Tor in the 68th minute of the match. A nice corner shot did that Joel Gaona got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Rasmus Sigman quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. After some careless play in the Mexico defense, Aydın Tor kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Dante Lacasa. The Mexico fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Dante Lacasa should have stopped the shot. Rasmus Sigman showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 75th minute of the match. Mexico were awarded a corner in the 76th minute after Newcastle United F.C.'s defender lost control of the ball, allowing it to roll out over the line. Joel Gaona took the corner. A collision led to Newcastle United F.C. getting a freekick after 83 minutes play. Zlatan Malmberg hit a great ball. If Aydın Tor had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 86th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Rasmus Sigman showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Joel Gaona, who was totally free with the ball in the 87th minute. Rasmus Sigman made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Alberto Tafalla in the 92nd minute of play. 96 minutes into the match, Mexico's goal looked a bit too open when Aydın Tor came free, but Dante Lacasa reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Mexico were clearly unhappy with the draw, as they felt they had done enough to earn themselves a victory.
